His training was cut short when his mother filed a grievence, the nature of which is unknown, against Morse for the release of her son. The court finding in her favor, he was released and probably completed his training with Edward Winslow. 9

John Banks, distiller of Boston, and wife Sarah mortgaged to James Gooch Jr. of Boston, distiller, his dwelling house and land bought of James Gooch, NW Boston, Green Lane. He would forfeit the £550 property if he did not pay Gooch £616 in increments. Witnessed by John Gooch and Benjamin Rolfe and recorded 11 Jan 1726.

John Banks of Boston, distiller, sold for £220 to Isaac Bemas of Boston, blacksmith, land in West Boston near Barton's Point south of the sea and bounded by land of Knight Leverett. Wife Sarah Banks also signed her agreement. Witnesses were Jeremiah Rhodes and Joseph Marion. This deed was not recorded until 14 Jan 1739. John and Sarah appeared in person in 1739 to acknowledge the deed.

Court ordered judgment against John Banks, goldsmith of Boston, for £71/12/6 and £5 for court costs. This was in regard to a debt owed to Jonathan Furnace of Boston, baker. The court ordered John Banks to jail until he paid the debt. A committee appraised land in West Boston adjacent James Gooch and found it worth £82. On 10 May 1737, Jonathan Furnace signed for receipt of the land.
