    His training was interrupted by the family's move to Detroit about 1830.
  • He worked circa 1836-1837 as a jeweler in Perrysburg Wood OH
  • He worked circa 1838-1843 as a jeweler in Fort Wayne IN
  • He worked in 1843-1860 as a jeweler and watchmaker in Sandusky OH where he supplimented his business with real estate speculation and winemaking. By 1861 the latter had become his primary occupation.
  • He appeared on the 1850 census taken at Sandusky OH, listed as a watchmaker.
  • He appeared on the 1860 census taken at Sandusky OH, listed as a jeweler.
  • He appeared on the 1870 census taken at Brooklyn NY, listed as a wine merchant.
