  General notes:

Silversmith

  Events in his life were:

  • He worked circa 1775-1820 as a silversmith in Southampton NY working in his father's shop. During and after the Revolution, he handled an increasing amount of the silver work, marking the goods with his father's punch; there is evidence he continued to do so even after his father's death. 7

Made by John, but marked with his father's mark. In 1802, John Lyon Gardiner commissioned a pair of porringers, which are documented in Pelletreau's account book. As here, the surviving porringer is also marked with his father's mark.

John married Mary Smith on 9 Apr 1785. (Mary Smith was born about 1770 in Southampton NY and died on 2 Dec 1817.)
