- He worked in 1768 as a silversmith in Norwich CT in shop belonging to his stepfather, Joseph Peck. 3

- Flynt & Fales: 1772, in Norwich CT. Purchased various construction materials, presumably for building on land rented from church at 71 East Town Street. His shop was said to have occupied one side of building; his brother Gardner's mercantile business the other. The building, now a museum, still houses Carpenter's silversmith shop, one of few surviving. Built a house next to his shop in 1775. 3
- Appointed: Postmaster, in Norwich CT. 3
- Advertised: 1776, in Norwich CT. Offering engravings of "four different views of Battles of Lexington, Concord, &c., copied from original Paintings taken on the Spot . . . six shillings per set for the plain engravings and eight shillings for the colored ones." 3
