  • He worked circa 1771-1821 as an engraver in Boston MA
    Originally as a journeyman in the shop of Paul Revere. Listed in the 1800 city directory as an engraver at 14 Federal Street. At least twenty-two bookplates by his hand are recorded.
  • Flynt & Fales: 1784, in Boston MA. Cut the seal for the Bank of Massachusetts. 3
  • Advertised: Independent Chronicle, on 23 Sep 1784, in Boston MA. Announceing he had moved from "Cornhill to the shop formerly improved by Mr. N. Hurd at Half Square, back of Mr. Shipman's school, State Street. where he carries on Engraving, Seal Cutting, and Copperplate Printing in all its Branches." 3

    It is believed that the dies, based on a design by Joseph Burrell, were cut by Callender. Examples exist in silver, copper, and pewter.
