Jeweler and engraver

  Events in his life were:

  • He appeared on the 1850 census taken at New Haven CT, listed as a jeweler.
  • He worked before 1860 as an engraver in Hartford CT in the shop of Everard Benjamin.
  • He appeared on the 1860 census taken at Hartford CT, listed as a jeweler.
  • He was a partner in 1860 with James Reynold Stevens in Hartford CT as HEMINGWAY & STEVENS, listed in the 1861 city directory at 284 Main Street. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he volunteered for duty and served till the end of hostilities, obtaining the rank of major. It is not known if the partnership was dissolved before or immediately after his service. He returned to Hartford and by 1870 had taken up dairy farming.
  • Advertised in the Bangor Daily Whig and Courier (Bangor ME), 18 May 1861, as part of a group endorsement of the Waltham Watch Company.
