    DESIGN FOR A CASKET-HANDLE SOCKET.

Specification forming part of Design No. 6,639, dated May 6, 1873; application filed April 3, 1873.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Cephas B. Rogers, of Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Design for Casket-Handle Sockets; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawing constitutes part of this specification, and represents, in—
    Figure 1 a front view.
This invention relates to a design for the socket of coffin or casket handles—that is to say, the plates to which the levers are attached and by means of which the handle is secured to the casket; and it consists in the peculiar configuration or outline of the plate, as shown
in the accompanying illustration, and more fully hereinafter described.
The plate is in the form of an oblong square, the four corners at right angles. Upon the two sides and ends a projecting ornament is formed, enlarging the plate at those points. The socket proper rises from the center of the plate, and may be of any desirable form, that constituting no part of this design, which relates only to the shape of the plate.
    I claim as my invention—
The design for casket-handle sockets, as shown in the accompanying illustration and herein described.

    DESIGN FOR COFFIN-PLATES.

Specification forming part of Design No. 8,765, dated November 2, 1875; application filed September 21, 1875.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Cephas B. Rogers, of West Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Design for Coffin-Plates ; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent a face view.
This invention relates to a design for the inscription-plate for coffins; and it consists of a plate of which a "lyre" forms the base, and a scroll across the front, upon which the inscription is to be made, all as more fully hereinafter described, and as shown in the accompanying illustration.
The base of the plate is in the form of a lyre. Across the front of this is the representation of a scroll extending from side to side, this scroll to serve as the inscription-plate, the lyre being an emblem.
The exact form of the inscription-plate is immaterial, it only being essential that a suitable surface shall be combined with the lyre across its front, upon which the inscription may be made, and substantially as shown in the accompanying illustration.
    I claim—
The design for coffin-plate, consisting of the representation of a lyre as the base, combined with an inscription-surface across its front, as herein described, and shown in the accompanying illustration.
